Derek Redmond - Hart's Fine Dining Evening
Key businesses from Nottingham gathered at Hart’s restaurant for an event put on by East Midlands Networking Group (EMNG), whose clients and members include: The Nottingham Post, Barclays, Smith Partnership, JLT, Champions (UK) plc and Innes England.
The group put on a number of events throughout the year bringing together members for an evening of food, drink and networking opportunities. Opening with a Champagne reception, guests were treated to an evening with Olympic legend and motivational speaker, Derek Redmond.
Former 4x400m relay world champion, Derek shot to worldwide fame at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona. Smashing two British records in the 1980s, he went into the 400m semi-final as one of the favourites before a torn hamstring dramatically ended his Olympic dream. What followed was one of the greatest moments in Olympic history as his dad Jim ran onto the track to help him to the finish line.
Now, Derek is one of the most sought after motivational and keynote speakers on the circuit able to inspire audiences with stories from his sporting career. His legacy has even been referenced by Barack Obama during one of his presidential speeches.
The evening was also hosted by critically acclaimed BBC sports commentator Pat Murphy, best known for his work on BBC radio covering a variety of sports over the last 30 years. Entertainment was also provided with singing sensation Rebecca Stafford, who recently acted as X-Factor winner Sam Bailey’s backing singer during her nationwide tour, performing some outstanding hits.
